Strengths:
- Excellent Yield Potential
- Acid Soil Tolerance
Comments:
Armour heads early, but has a long grain fill period. If it loses its leaves to disease or is dry late in the season, it may not finish filling. This can affect yields and test weights, but can still do well under favorable filling conditions. Armour yields with a combination of high tillering and average head size. It is not a showy wheat.
Phillips Seed's Management Tips:
- Can get short and lose tillers under tough dryland conditions.
- Better than some on Tan Spot resistance, so it can be an option for continuous wheat.
- Good choice for low pH soils, but not the best choice to follow corn.
- Be prepared to spray with a fungicide when Stripe Rust is present.
- Control volunteer before planting to help reduce Wheat Streak Mosaic, Hessian fly, and Barley Yellow Dwarf.
